The importance of a globally relevant and continually evolving biological security education is a crucial component of improving biosecurity, and there has been previous recognition of the need for systematic and sustained education for life scientists. In this paper, we specifically analysed the structure, approach and lessons learned from the International Nuclear Security Education Network (INSEN) and work of the Advisory Board on Education and Outreach (ABEO) of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and propose a similar structure for an International Biological Security Education Network that could be applied to the establishment of a comparable network for biosecurity education for civil society and the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC) to adopt.
