Keefe, John (2020) Archival foundations and first reflections. In: Staging and Re-cycling: Retrieving, Reflecting and Re-framing the Archive. Routledge, Abingdon, pp. 27-35. ISBN 9780367859398
This essay suggests how we may re-look from the side (parergon) and from the front. That the 'new' implies overlaps and repeating(s) that may or may not be acknowledged. Consideration is given to language, presence, the always proximate spectator. Concepts of embodied simulation, mirror neurons and motor systems are introduced. The wider possibilities of 'archive' and 'library' are presented as dynamic concepts; as necessary conditions for pre-understanding and being-in-the-world.
