Singh, A. P. (1960) Interaction of silicon chlorides with phosphorous and phosphoric esters. Doctoral thesis, Northern Polytechnic.
The reaction of trialkyl phosphates, (RO)3P=O (R=Me, Prn, Pri Bun, Bui, and Bus) with silicon tetra-chloride proceeds the elimination of alkyl chloride and a condensation polymerisation forming P - O - Si linkages occur. The final product in these systems was always "silicon phosphate", O16P4Si3.
Similarly arylboron dihalides, QBX2 (Q = C6H5 and p-CH3C6H4, X = Cl and Br) reacted with triethyl phosphate and tri-n-butyl phosphate giving alkyl halide and a polymer containing P - O - B linkages, which finally, heating to 900o, gave "boron phosphate".
The reaction between trialkoxychlorosilanes and trialkyl phosphates yielded mono-, bis- and tris-silyl phosphates with the elimination of alkyl halide. A review of organic compounds containing Si - O - P linkages is given.
No definite reaction was observed in the case of mono-alkoxytrichlorosilanes and phosphorus trichloride and phosphorous oxychloride, but in the presence of a catalyst such as zinc chloride or aluminium chloride, the formation of polydichlorosiloxane with the evolution of alkyl chloride was observed.
