While a correlation exists between homelessness and mental health distress, people experiencing homelessness (PEH) encounter personal, societal, and structural barriers that impede their access to and engagement with care. This study interviewed four people experiencing homelessness to explore: 1) the broader lived experience of homelessness and how this shapes mental health needs, 2) the specific systemic and personal barriers faced when seeking mental health support, 3) how individual circumstances and demographics influence these experiences, and 4) perceptions of current support and potential service improvements. An Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was adopted to examine how participants subjectively make sense of these intersecting realities.
