Padova, J., J. I. (1954) The viscosity of electrolytes in mixed solvents. Doctoral thesis, Northern Polytechnic.
The viscosities, densities and refractive indices of Sodium and Magnesium Sulphates, Manganese Chloride, Barium, Magnesium, Potassium and Sodium Acetates, in water and mixtures of water with Ethyl Alcohol or Acetone have been determined.
Measurements of viscosity were made with an Ubbelohde viscometer which, for a few standard solutions, was compared with a Couette viscometer. In each solvent, the viscosity results have been plotted against concentration. The results for aqueous solutions have been interpreted from the point of view of solvation and correlated with the density measurements and solvation number. This explanation has been successfully extended to the mixed solvent and viscosity values calculated.
Root's equation for densities has been found to hold In any of the solvents.
Apparent molar refractions have been calculated for each salt in the solvents used and the results considered from the point of view of solvation and influence of dielectric constant.
