Abstract

“Process, Production, Community – The Impact of Risograph Printers on Teaching and Learning in Art and Design Schools.”
This study explores how the acquisition of Risograph printers has shaped collaborative learning cultures within Art and Design schools. It examines the ways in which Riso technologies have influenced studio practices, supported experimental and process-driven approaches, created a new ritualistic use of print, and contributed to more democratic modes of creative production.
The document comprises a written critical analysis supported by case studies. The research also incorporates interviews with staff from several Art Schools across the UK who played key roles in integrating Risograph printing into their institutions. These insights provide a nuanced understanding of how the Riso printer has been embedded pedagogically, materially, and socially within contemporary art and design education.
