Abstract
This is a book review of 'Psychoanalysis, historiography and the Nazi camps: accounting for survival' by Dan Stone. In this slim volume, historian Dan Stone explores and historicises a catalogue of psychoanalytic accounts that have, over time, attempted to provide explanations for why some people survived the Nazi camps - explanations that at one time or another proved compelling but were later modified or jettisoned for being too simplistic or out of step with new historical findings.
