Abstract

This article explores the multifaceted journeys of creativity in pedagogy, highlighting its potential to lead to diverse and transformative educational experiences. Drawing from personal experiences as a designer and lecturer, Chiara Cola reflects on her dual role as an educator and student, particularly within the context of the BA Interior Design course and the PGCert Learning and Teaching in Higher Education at London Metropolitan University. The narrative delves into the poetic nature of pedagogy, emphasizing creativity as a tool for liberation, identity empowerment, and social justice. Through metaphors, imagination, dialogue, and material interaction, the article illustrates how creative pedagogy can foster self-exploration and embrace students’ cultural capital, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and impactful educational landscape.

Chiara Cola currently works as Graduate Support Specialist at University of the Arts London, in the Careers and Employability Department, part of the Teaching, Learning and Employability Exchange. She is a hybrid creative with a background in digital, print and textile design, having worked in various fields including costume design for film. She has been Associate Lecturer for two years in the BA Course of Interior Design teaching Level 3, 4 and 5 students, in the School of Art, Architecture and Design of London Metropolitan University, where is still currently Tutor of Art & Design for the National Saturday Club. She has been Visiting Lecturer across different disciplines in universities such as DIDI – Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation, London College of Fashion (UAL), Accademia Costume e Moda, Academy of Fine Arts of Rome, Polimoda, NABA, IED Madrid, Istituto Marangoni. She received her HEA Fellowship after completing the PGCert LTHE Course at London Metropolitan University in July 2021.
