Abstract / Description
A major impact of globalization and emerging information society is the urge to generate local content for local and global consumption. This is of immense benefit for developing countries and Nigeria in particular because of prospects accruing from it. Library as an indispensable agent in national development through provision of relevant information has a key role to play. The onus rests on Nigerian libraries to generate much more local content to meet local and global information needs. The paper discusses issues in the creation of institutional repositories with local content from library perspective, focusing more on ways to enhance creation of local content, inherent challenges and suggestions on the way forward for Nigerian Libraries.
