Interview Nunzio 00 00 - 17 00 (approx) speak of Nunzio returning to Belmonte to se family and friends before the festive period, as he spends time with his wife and family in Switzerland. Spoke of students, Rachel, we spoke of her spending Xmas in Rome, where would be open etc. xmas in belmonte: starts friday 23rd, people start to congregate in town, more so in paese, begins slaughter of pig for food, dressup nice clothes socialise etc, begin to do tombolata / games etc, 24th dec go to church ceremony, 25th everyon in paese to make clebration "auguri" etc., angelo bar, youngs guys go to marina. janruary is a period for "maiale" (pork), slaughtering pigs, we speak of cultural differences and "shock" feeling it can bring. Nunzio describes his own feelings for seeing this now, which although having grown up witnessing this, would possibly be a more difficult experience now he has lived elsewhere ("your mind changs when out the village"). 17 00 - 48 00 (approx) begin to talk of the project. Nunzio left Belmonte 18 years ago, mentality is thus different to living in the village always. returns 2-3 times per year. first heard of project, did not believe would last, assumed it would be "italian style", very social organise events for short periods then stop as no-one would believe or care to sustain. first thought, "too nice to be true". Could be positive moment for Belmonte inter-change people, new people new activity etc. typically people in Belmonte dont move etc. Mentality is slowly changing once you move outside etc. So new peopl in Belmonte he believes good for people of Belmontee. Exposure to new people / culture / ideas etc. However, quite surpised the project gained traction, after 4-5-6 years was impresseed by occupation in and collaboration with town. Nunzio wished to share with Seppie, and stay a bit more time in Belmonte, to see developments and work and spendtime alongside etc. Diversity as good for several reasons, introductions, exposure to new people / cultures. Gives strength to a place and project. "Every contamination needs time". valuable having certain actor, such as nunzio himself, who have both the ability to understand culturally and orally (dialect and language). individual vs group experience. Individual experience, can possibly lead to quicker developments but also prove the need to push oneself to integrate with language etc. typical conversation regarding group and individual experiences when spending time in small town etc. describe how seppie organise and facilitate events for students and guests to see traditional practices, also more causal social events etc. working with other paese and towns (longobardi etc), as good way to expand and connect. Focusing on Belmonte always could be limiting when exploring connections and social networks tht could be beneficial to the project. Basically the assets of Seppie could be shared with other "young groups" that mmay operate close-by / within the region. (gynestra one of our sometimes colaborators, some of whom help with us regularly, Valentina etc). 48 00 - speak of other people groups demographs in the region, Belmonte is often home from time to time to young argentianians, whos uncles or grandparents were italian immigrants to argentina. Thus they have the possibilty to apply for a visa through Italy, to gain access to europe. From this visa / travel situation also comes the desire to discover something about the past of the previous generations, the uncles aunties nd grandparents who left these areas. "life in the city is no longer what the people want, so we must go one step back, in order to go forward". Nunzios wife's sister and family wish to live remotely, home working etc, little artistic, he suggested Belomnte, but they said its a little far from a stronger economy. Nunzio re-iterate the challeneg of getting som youngs guys (not 21, 22, 23 y/o guys we work with, but the guys a bit older, 30 - 35 etc) into casa etc is often languagae and thus confidence engaging etc.
