Abstract
This account describes in detail the construction of a large area plastic scintillation counter and its accompanying transistorised pulse height analyser. As a preliminary experiment, the counter was used to measure the energy loss of muons of momenta less than approximately 40.0 GeV/c. This experiment demonstrated the validity of the experimental method. Finally, an experiment is described which extended the investigation into the momentum range from 3 to about 100 GeV/c.
