The electrical properties of chalcopyrites

Reichenbaum, G. (1957) The electrical properties of chalcopyrites. Doctoral thesis, Northern Polytechnic.

Abstract

The conductivity and thermo-electric power of synthetic and natural specimens of chalcopyrites have been investigated in the temperature range -140° to 300°c. The Hall coefficient of the natural specimens has also been measured in this region, but in the case of the synthetic specimens is too small to be detected. The temperature dependence of the mobility indicates that impurity scattering is predominant over most of the temperature range considered. On this basis the effective mass of electrons may be derived and values between 0.6m and 1.2 m at 0°c have been obtained for various specimens. The low mobility values encountered suggest that the samples are markedly inhomogeneous and this is further borne out by the decrease in the measured resistance at high frequencies.
