Czok, Marta, Scarso, Jacek Ludwig and Milczanowska, Henryka (2025) Marta Czok IN MEMORIAM. [Show/Exhibition]
Supported by the Italian Institute of Culture in Krakow, the Foundation for the Art of the Polish Emigration 1939-1989 and the Marta Czok Foundation, this retrospective exhibition explores the artistic legacy of Marta Czok, following her sudden passing in 2025. The exhibition was curated by Henryka Milczanowska and Jacek Ludwig Scarso.
Internationally known both for her political satire and for her detailed scenes of everyday life—often set in the London of her childhood - Marta Czok was born in Lebanon to a Polish family that, in the aftermath of the Second World War, found political asylum in the United Kingdom. After training at St. Martins School of Art and being repeatedly invited to take part in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, she moved to Italy in the 1970s, where she established her career.
Her connection with Poland remained strong, although Czok had few opportunities to visit the country. Since 2017, the Foundation for the Art of the Polish Emigration 1939–1989, directed by Milczanowska, has organized several exhibitions of her work, including at the Institute of Culture in Warsaw and the Museum of Caricature in Lublin. This is the first joint exhibition in Poland, co-curated with Jacek Ludwig Scarso and Fondazione Marta Czok.
