Lewis, Jane, Stirbu, Diana, Yu, Qicheng and Nyby, Josefine (2026) Disability research: participatory research toolkit. Project Report. London Metropolitan University, London (UK). (Submitted)

Abstract

Based on the findings and experience of conducting three participatory research projects with disabled people this toolkit has been produced to help researchers and organisations who want to conduct participatory research with disabled and neuro-divergent people and communities.

It is hoped the Toolkit will be useful to organisations and services looking to increase disabled people’s access to services, employment and cultural events and venues which might include policy, research and disability organisations, as well as academic researchers.

This Toolkit is intended to serve as a guide for researchers or organisations in their work with deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people especially regarding improving access to employment and to the cultural sector and activities. and to showcase the research, conducted at the Centre for Applied Research in Empowering Society (CARES) at London Metropolitan University with disabled communities particularly on the barriers to accessing employment and cultural activities and events.
