Abstract

The presentation looked at the debate about importance of adopting appropriate research methodologies to the educational enterprise. In particular educational research has to aim for producing practically relevant approaches that not only can be reproduced but also help address practical problems faced by teachers/lecturers. The presentation argued for the need for lecturers to learn from the business approach to problem solving to ensure relevance of research and use measurable outcomes. It highlight the relevance of action research and its various forms to help in this process. In order to demonstrate educational journals bias against action research, the presentation illustrated some of the positioning statements that demonstrate the bias. Finally it concluded with advice on the way forward.
