Abstract / Description

Black & white photograph of a picket on the steps of the London Irish Centre (LIC). Protesting against the holding of a referendum in Ireland to enshrine the prohibition of abortion into the Irish constitution via 8th amendment. Dated '17 March '83 - St Patrick's Day'. Gemma Hussey T.D (the minister of education) was guest-of-honour. In the photograph, a woman walks up steps past the group of protesters holding placards bearing the messages 'Free safe and legal abortion' and '9000 Irish women come to England every year'.
